Community Building: Bria Han on Plugging In

At the heart of every transformative technology lies a human story. In the latest Nexus Chat, community manager Bria Han talks about what it means to build an open, global culture around a deeply technical mission — creating the Verifiable Internet.

Curiosity → Community

Bria’s journey into Web3 began after hearing a Harvard lecture on technologies shaping the future. What started as curiosity quickly turned into a drive to explore blockchain’s societal implications. After research roles and experience at the Initiative for Cryptocurrencies and Contracts (IC3) at Cornell Tech, she found her way to Nexus — not just to support a product, but to shape a community.

“I was really drawn to the external-facing part of the space — not just research itself, but community, education, and storytelling,” Bria says.

More than numbers

Community at Nexus isn’t measured by Discord headcount or engagement metrics. For Bria, it’s about how people feel once they’re in. That means designing systems that foster participation — lowering the intimidation barrier of cutting-edge infrastructure and making contribution feel natural, even fun.

“We’re building something complex, but people need to feel like they belong here from day one.”

A revamped role system on Discord recognizes contributors of all kinds — content creators, translators, meme-makers — and signals that initiative matters. Whether someone shares a Nexus-inspired graphic or helps localize content for a new region, it all feeds into the same flywheel.

Education as onboarding

The biggest challenge? Education. Bria is focused on creating bridges between the abstract concepts of verifiability and real-world relevance. The solution lies in more hands-on, accessible learning — interactive formats, better storytelling, and stronger developer support as Nexus expands.

“We’re building infrastructure for the future. But people can’t help build if they don’t know where to start.”

An invitation to create

As Nexus gears up for a series of creative contests — think art, memes, and unexpected formats — Bria emphasizes that contribution doesn’t require technical credentials. The only requirement is a willingness to engage. Share something. Tag someone. Start small.

“Discord is where the magic happens. It’s not just a platform — it’s our studio, our clubhouse, our laboratory.”

Plug in

For those on the fence about joining, the first step is simple: click the Discord link on the Nexus homepage and jump in. You’ll find opportunities, collaborators, and a culture defined by inclusion and experimentation.

“This should feel like home,” Bria says. “A place people want to stick with — not just for the mission, but for the community we’re building together.”
